Your role will include:-

• monitoring your patient, ensuring that they are comfortable and relaxed
• keeping the surgery organised
• ensuring that all equipment and instrument are decontaminated/sterilised

You will also work in other areas of the practice, including reception and the sterilisation suite. You will be trained to book appointments, deal with patient queries, answer the telephone in an appropriate manner, take and record payments.
If you have good interpersonal and time management skills, you are organised and stay calm under pressure, this is a great career with good opportunities to progress and specialise.

• An End Point Assessment
An Assessor will attend your practice on a monthly/six weekly basis for approximately 2 hours at a time to carry out observations, where you are required to provide chair side assistance, to assess your level of competence in practice. Your assessor will also assess the standard of work demonstrated and determine whether you require any further support.
This is done through routine assessment and observational visits and are an integral part of the diploma course, it is important that you are assessed on a regular basis.
The minimum length of the Diploma is 18 months.
This Diploma accounts for 48 credits
The End Point Assessment of the Dental Nurse apprenticeship is part of the qualification. You cannot achieve the qualification without being successful in the End Point Assessment, which consists of the following:
• Knowledge Test
• Observation of Practice followed by Question and Answer
• Interview – underpinned by a portfolio
The portfolio submitted at Gateway, which will underpin the interview, may contain evidence taken from the on-programme portfolio as long as the evidence meets the specific requirements detailed in the End Point Assessment pack.
The assessment will be carried out by City & Guilds, an independent registered end-point assessment organisation.
The focus of the end-point assessment is for the candidate to fully demonstrate the values, knowledge, skills and behaviours, set out in the apprenticeship standard and to be able to demonstrate this level of professional competence in authentic workplace contexts.
The end assessment is a formal summative assessment that concludes the apprenticeship programme and is assessed in a number of ways to provide a clear indication of the candidate’s knowledge and skills.
